Our summer temps went crazy the past 2 days. Like up 30 degrees crazy. It’s hot, but because the rain is finally gone, I am not going to complain. I’m just going to keep drinking my mango basil smoothie to get me through these triple digits. Anyone else with me here? Just trying to help you out.
This huge basil plant I bought last week at the farmer’s market has been making it’s way into just about every food I’ve consumed. I’m loving it! Basil tastes differently in the summer, in the best possible way. I kept thinking of recipe possibilities with mangoes and basil, and knew this would be a hit! Instead of a traditional smoothie with a handful of greens, I threw in the handful of fresh basil for a refreshing taste. The banana helps to add just the right amount of sweetness, and the taste of mango just screams summer! Serve this up to your kids on a hot day instead of ice cream, or let them try this as a morning smoothie for breakfast.
If you wanted to add to the nutrient density of this drink as more of a meal replacer, you can easily add in a scoop of high quality protein powder. Mango Basil Smoothie
- 1.5 cups unsweetened non dairy milk almond, flax, cashew, etc.
- 1 mango de-seeded and cut into chunks*
- 1/2 cup loose basil leaves
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup ice
- Protein Powder 1 scoop (this one is my favorite)
- Place all ingredients into a high powered blender.
- Blend until basil is completely incorporated and drink is smooth!
- Add protein powder for an additional nutrient boost.
