The ultimate cooking hack you didn’t know you needed is that you can cook rice on your stovetop like pasta in only 10 minutes. Yes, it’s true. And yes, you’ll never go back to your old method! Follow this simple tried and true method for perfect white Jasmine rice.

A few years ago, I learned this trick of cooking rice from a local Thai restaurant I love. Let me tell you, in some ways I feel that this was life changing. Using Jasmine rice, you can make perfect rice on the stovetop in just 10 minutes.
As a nutritionist, rice is a staple carbohydrate in my house. As a busy mom of teenage athletes, I love having plenty of rice on hand as an a quick and easy filler or side dish. I keep a stash in the fridge to cut down on cook time for some of my rotation recipes like Buffalo Ranch Chicken Skillet, Creamy Chicken Mushroom Rice Casserole, or my Sheet Pan Shrimp Tacos. I use this hack every week when I meal prep so that at any given time, a protein with rice is always available quickly to eat!
Rice as a Gut-Friendly Food!
Just in case you need another reason to make rice and store in the fridge, let’s talk about how this is a gut-friendly food. Once rice is cooked then cooled, it creates more resistant starch which is a prebiotic food. Resistant starch is what your gut microbiota loves to eat! So what does this mean? When we cook rice, cool it in the fridge, and eat it at a later time, we are giving our beneficial gut bacteria something to eat. This only creates a stronger and more diverse gut microbiome!
How to Make Rice Like Pasta
This method is so easy that it feels silly laying it all out there. But you only need 2 ingredients: Jasmine rice and water.

Boil a pot of water and add the rice. Set a timer for 10 minutes. Once 10 minutes is up, remove the pot and drain the rice in a colander.
The next step is important. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes, or until cool before serving. That little extra steam makes it absolutely PERFECT!!
Store for Meal Prep
Having rice stored in my fridge as an easy addition to a meal saves me time and money! Just the other night I made my Slow Cooker Peanut Butter Chicken early in the day as I was gone from noon to 7. By the time I got home, all I had I do was heat up the rice in the microwave and add to my shredded chicken.

Notes About this Method
I have had so much success using this method with Jasmine rice only! I honestly have not tried with basmati rice, but I know brown rice would definitely require much longer cook time. So if you try these instructions, make sure you know it’s for Jasmine rice.
One other important note here is make sure your water ratio is at least 3 times the amount of water. So for 2 cups of rice you would need at least 6 cups of water. You don’t have to measure, but keep that in mind.
